Interview of CETIC Coordinator
We now have a clear understanding of what lies ahead
CETIC:07-07-2014
The ACE-ICT coordinator, Professor AWONO ONANA, speaks out on the merits of holding the national workshop to validate the Programmes.
What is the context of the seminar, which ends today?
Pr AWONO: The University of Yaounde I had been selected to serve as an African Center of Excellence (ACE) in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). It should be underscored here that, within the context of this vast continental project, partnership is a huge issue at stake: how shall we work with our national and international academic partners? The goal during these two days was to bring the focal points of our partner universities to explain the size of the project, project expectations, objectives, methodology, discuss programmes pass and also take note of what is already being done in the universities there for us to help them also achieve a level of excellence.
At the end of this seminar can we say that the programs are validated and courses may actually start in September?
Pr AWONO: Absolutely. We now have a unified understanding of what awaits us, of course we will deliver in September and we will find then meet to discuss research topics so that we can be a good actor to lead Cameroon under the TSE.
What are the criteria that guided the selection of curricula?
Pr AWONO: First relevanceto the needsof our societyandthensocialutility. We want to meet the needs ofbusinesses and alsofind solutions to theso-called “sub-neighbourhood problems”.These problemsgenerally fall within theinformation and communicationtechnology issues, ICT related matters, mathematics, physics, information processing, sensors and others.
What is your appreciation of this two-day seminar?
Pr AWONO: I am very pleased with the work done and I think all the seminar participants understand that this is a national project with a continental scope, and we Cameroonians need to be united to achieve it.
